The 15 Best Day Trips From Seville
Before we explore 15 incredible day trips from Seville, here’s a quick table that breaks down six of the best options you can take:
| Day Trip | Best For | Travel Time | Transport |
|---|---|---|---|
| Córdoba | History & architecture | 44 min | Train |
| Cádiz | Beach & old town | 1h 39m | Train |

| Doñana NP | Nature & wildlife | 1h | Tour/Car |
| Carmona | Quick half-day trip | 23 min | Car |
Below are detailed transport options, travel times, and tips for all 15 day trips from Seville, in no particular order:
1. Granada
Distance from Seville: 250 km
Arguably, the most impressive historical city within reach of Seville is Granada, which is 250 kilometres east of Seville in central Andalusia.
Home to the famous Alhambra, a Moorish palace that attracts up to 1.6 million visitors annually, Granada is full of history and culture, making it a must-visit destination in Spain.
I’ve visited Granada and the Alhambra Palace on two separate occasions and fell in love with the place. It is one of my favourite cities in Spain (with only Madrid ahead of it).

👉 Pro Tip: If you’re planning on visiting Alhambra Palace, then I highly suggest booking a ‘skip the line’ ticket in advance online. I have made the mistake of just turning up, expecting to buy a ticket in no time.
But because of the palace’s popularity with tourists, I was in a long queue for over an hour, which was far from ideal.
I also suggest allocating a minimum of 2 hours at Alhambra. It is a large place with so much iconic architecture that you’ll want to take your time to fully appreciate everything you see.

🚘Rideshare: Carpooling is a popular way of travelling in Spain, with the app ‘BlaBlaCar‘ used throughout the country. I actually shared rides from Seville to Granada, and it’s a fun and cheap way to travel and meet locals.
🚙By Car: Driving from Seville to Granada will take you 2 hours 40 minutes (depending on traffic), and you’ll be using the A-92g motorway for the majority of the journey.
2. Doñana National Park
Distance from Seville: 67 km
Doñana National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site with diverse wildlife and dramatic landscapes, and is only an hour and a half away from Seville by bus, making it the perfect excursion for nature lovers.
Spanning a total of 543 kilometres, the park is home to over 400 species of birds, not to mention the endangered Spanish imperial eagle and the Iberian lynx.
If you’re a fan of birdwatching, hiking, biking or discovering remarkable scenery, then Doñana National Park is simply a must-visit destination from Seville.

Cordoba is another aesthetically appealing historical city that you can visit from Seville within a day.
To the north-east of Seville is Cordoba, an ancient city, most famous for the jaw-dropping Mosque-Cathedral, another must-visit site in Spain.
I visited Cordoba during my stay in Seville for one day and was blown away by the Mosque-Cathedral. The journey remains one of my most fond memories of my time in Andalusia.

4. Huelva
Distance from Seville: 91 km
Well known for its beaches and natural scenery, Huelva is an ideal escape from Seville if you’re looking to escape into nature for a day or more.
Situated to the west of Seville on the coast of the Iberian Peninsula, the city has strong ties to Christopher Columbus and a strong seafood gastronomy scene.
There are several outstanding beaches in and around Huelva, with Matalascañas beach considered one of the best to visit, and is the closest beach from Seville.

5. Cadiz
Distance from Seville: 120 km
If you’re craving a beach day while in Seville, then Cadiz is one of your best options available.
Cadiz is based to the south of Seville, and it’s one of the much-loved beach destinations for Spaniards, though it is surprisingly not well known by tourists.
I’ve been to Cadiz on a couple of occasions; it’s a small city with delightful architecture and magnificent beaches. The sunsets here are spectacular!

👉 Pro-Tip: If you plan to visit Cadiz in February, then get ready to party! The 12th to the 22nd of February are the dates for the Cadiz Carnival, where party goers dress up in all sorts of weird and wonderful costumes.
I went to Cadiz during the carnival period, and it was certainly a funny, memorable experience.
How to get to Cadiz from Seville:
🚆By train: The train from Seville-San Bernardo station takes approximately 1 hour 39 minutes, with ticket prices ranging between £11 and £16.
🚌 By Bus: I caught a bus from Seville to Cadiz on both of my visits to the beach city and had a pleasant experience. The journey takes 1 hour 45 minutes and costs between £15 and £35.
🚘Rideshare: ‘BlaBlaCar’ is a good option to travel between Seville and Cadiz.
🚙By Car: Driving from Seville to Cadiz will take you 1 hour 18 minutes (depending on traffic).
6. Écija
Distance from Seville: 88km
Only 88 kilometres east of Seville is the city of Écija, an overlooked gem that is easily reachable within a day.
Full of historical churches and palaces, Écija also has a rich culinary culture and several top-rated restaurants.
It’s certainly a much quieter and more relaxed city than Seville. You can take a horse-drawn carriage through the city, which is a fun way to see a lot of its beauty without having to walk.

🚌 By Bus: As there are no trains available from Seville to Écija, catching a bus is your only option if you’re relying on public transport. Fortunately, the bus takes 1 hour and 5 minutes, with tickets costing between £5 and £14.

7. Malaga
Distance from Seville: 296 km
I’ve been to Malaga a few times and have found it to be a very enjoyable city to explore. I loved visiting the Picasso museum and the Alcazaba, a fortress with panoramic views of the city and coast.
Malaga is a top travel destination for Spaniards, and for several good reasons. Located on the Costa del Sol of the Mediterranean, it is a lively place with historical and cultural attractions, as well as pristine beaches.
There are several excellent beaches near Malaga to relax on as well. If you don’t want to travel too far from the city to enjoy a spot of sunbathing, I recommend La Malagueta Beach, which is easily reachable from the city centre.

How to get to Malaga from Seville:
🚆By train: The train from Seville to Malaga takes approximately 2 hours 6 minutes, with ticket prices ranging between £21 and £51.
🚌 By Bus: The bus to Malaga from Seville is longer than the train, taking 2 hours 45 minutes, but tickets are cheaper, ranging from £11 to £35.

8. Carmona
Distance from Seville: 33 km
Carmona is a delightful little town to the north-east of Seville and is also one of the oldest towns in all of Europe. It sits on a ridge that overlooks the central plain of Andalusia, with picturesque views in the distance.
It also has a rich history, famous for producing olive oil, wine, grain and cattle. A visit here would guarantee an authentic glimpse into true Andalusian life, and it’s unlikely there would be many (if any) tourists visiting as well.
👉 Pro Tip: If you’re visiting Seville during May, then definitely plan a trip to Carmona. The town’s annual fair takes place during the third week of May, a tradition that dates back to 1466.
The fair is a celebration of local life in Carmona. Expect activities ranging from Flamenco dancing, parades, rides, art exhibits, culinary and wine sampling and much more.

9. Ronda
Distance from Seville: 127 km
I spent one day visiting Ronda and enjoyed its peaceful, quiet vibe. There can be a lot of tourists there depending on when you visit, but I felt that a one day was an ideal length of time to discover what it has to offer.
Ronda is home to one of the most impressive feats of engineering you’ll ever see: the Puente Nuevo Bridge. Crossing a huge 120 metre chasm, this bridge was completed in 1793 and makes an escape from Seville completely worthwhile.
But Ronda is a gorgeous city in its own right. Perched on a cliffside, it offers postcard views of hillsides and valleys. The city is renowned for its gastronomy, with countless top-tier restaurants to dine at.
👉 Pro Tip: If you want to get the best photos of Puente Nuevo Bridge, then there is a slightly steep pathway by the side of the gorge that you can walk down, to then look back up at the bridge at an ideal angle.
It’s worth walking down for the breathtaking views of the bridge, but be careful of your footing as it can be quite a dangerous pathway if you’re not paying attention.

How to get to Ronda from Seville:
🚆By train: It is possible to take a train from Seville to Ronda, but it’s not a direct route and will take 4 hours each way, meaning it’s not suitable for a day trip.
🚌 By Bus: The bus from Seville to Ronda is more direct, taking just 2 hours 15 minutes, with tickets ranging between £13 and £25.
🚘Rideshare: It’s possible to find a rideshare from Seville to Ronda for just £5, if you’re lucky.
🚙By Car: Driving from Seville to Ronda takes 1 hour 40 minutes (depending on traffic).

10. Madrid
Distance from Seville: 470 km
Although the distance from the Andalusian capital to the Spanish capital may seem long, don’t let this put you off from a day trip to Madrid! Thanks to Spain’s high-speed trains, you can reach Madrid in just 2 hours and a half hours.
I’ve travelled by high-speed train from Seville to Madrid and was very impressed with every aspect of the train ride (I was on a Renfe train), from the spacious carriages to the actual speed of the train.
Although there is a strong argument about which city is better: Seville or Madrid, there are so many activities you can do in just a day in Madrid. Having previously lived there for several months, it’s arguably my favourite city in the world.
But I must stress; this trip is only suitable if you take an early high-speed train and are happy with a long but rewarding day.
Whether you want to explore the Royal Palace, chill out in Retiro Park or enjoy a bit of shopping on the Gran Vía, your options are endless!

🚆By train: The fastest train from Seville to Madrid takes 2 hours 37 minutes, with tickets costing from just £20 if you book online in advance – I advise using Bookaway.
🚙By Car: Driving from Seville to Madrid takes a lot longer than the train: 5 hours 15 minutes (depending on traffic).

🚙By Car: Driving from Seville to Osuna takes 55 minutes (depending on traffic).
12. Jerez de la Frontera
Distance from Seville: 88.9 km
Jerez de la Frontera is a delightful city halfway between Seville and Cadiz, and it’s easy to reach from the capital of Andalusia.
I was in Jerez for two days and was surprised by its rich history and the many things to do. Famous for producing sherry, there are countless bodegas where you take a sherry tasting tour and discover how the drink is made.
Jerez is also well known for its proud equestrian traditions; it’s possible to see a horse-riding show during your time there.
For me, one day was the perfect length of time to enjoy this quaint place, which has more going on than you may expect. It is a city often ignored and overlooked by international tourists, which is a great shame.

How to get to Jerez de la Frontera from Seville:
🚆By train: A train ride from Seville to Jerez takes just under an hour, with tickets costing between £8 and £12.
🚌 By Bus: A bus ride to Jerez takes almost the same amount of time as the train does and costs slightly more, between £9 and £18.
🚘Rideshare: A rideshare from Seville to Jerez is very cheap, costing just £5 depending on how many passengers are with you.

13. Setenil de las Bodegas
Distance from Seville: 126 km
126 kilometres southeast of Seville and not far from Ronda, is the village of Setenil de las Bodegas, one of the most curious destinations you can visit from Seville.
Famous for its whitewashed houses that are built into a rock formation overlooking the Río Guadalporcún river, there are several narrow, winding streets in the village where you can explore the unique buildings.
The village has a lively nightlife with plenty of cool wine bars and restaurants, and there are some stunning vistas to enjoy from spots such as Calle San Sebastian and Mirador del Lizon.
How to get to Setenil de las Bodegas from Seville:
🚌 By Bus: Taking a bus to Setenil de las Bodegas from Seville takes 3 hours and 5 minutes, and requires making a transfer at Algodonales, with tickets costing from £11 to £14.
Although this may seem a long journey, it’s faster than taking a train, which takes nearly 4 hours.
🚙By Car: Driving from Seville to Setenil de las Bodegas is the fastest option, taking 1 hour 38 minutes (depending on traffic).
14. Sanlucar de Barrameda
Distance from Seville: 96 km
Sanlucar de Barrameda is a delightfully quaint town on the coast of Andalusia, just north of Cadiz and Jerez de la Frontera and is opposite Doñana National Park.
Renowned for its excellent cuisine, wine, lovely beaches and picturesque views, it offers an insight into real Andalusian life, away from the tourist trap of Seville.
It is a town of historical significance, known as an important port for Christopher Columbus, amongst others.
How to get to Sanlucar de Barrameda from Seville:

🚙By Car: Driving from Seville to Sanlucar de Barrameda is the fastest option, taking 1 hour 27 minutes (depending on traffic).
15. Rio Tinto Mines
Distance from Seville: 88km
Not too far north of Seville, near the town of Nerva, is one of the oldest mining sites in the world; Rio Tinto Mines. Believed to date back as long as 5,000 years, visiting these mines is certainly unique and memorable.
With a guided tour available as well as a museum on the site, you can learn all about the region’s rich mining history within just an hour of Seville.
How to get to Rio Tinto Mines from Seville:
🚙By Car: Driving from Seville to Rio Tinto Mines is the only option available, as there are no public transportation links nearby. Driving to the mines from Seville takes 1 hour and 18 minutes (depending on traffic).

Day Trips From Seville FAQs
Still not sure about taking a day trip from Seville? Let me answer some of the most commonly asked questions about this topic:
What’s the best day trip from Seville?
This really depends on your preference! If you’re a nature lover, then Doñana National Park is a great choice. If you want to relax on the beach then head to either Huelva or Cadiz.
I’m more of a history buff, and I loved my time in both Granada and Cordoba.
What’s the best time of year to visit Seville?
Any time in either spring or autumn is a good option to visit Seville, as temperatures will be warm but not too high.
Avoid visiting in the summer months as life in Andalusia can be unbearable, with temperatures reaching and surpassing 40 degrees Celsius. I experienced this, having worked and lived in Seville during June and July, which was way too hot!
The winter months are a top choice, as flights and accommodation are cheap and there are less tourists.
Can you take a train from Seville to Portugal?
No, there are no direct trains from Seville to Portugal. There are buses that run to Portuguese destinations such as Lagos and Lisbon.
This isn’t ideal for one day; however, a bus from Seville to Lagos takes nearly 4 hours, while a bus to Lisbon takes 6 hours and 30 minutes.
